A final decision has not been taken by the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) on whom to give nominations at the forthcoming election, Cabinet Spokesperson Rajitha Senaratne said.
The observation was made at the weekly press conference held at the Government Information Department on Thursday (9).
“The President will take the ultimate decision,” he said, adding that the UPFA has not yet decided on whom to give nominations.
Responding to a question whether or not it would be a betrayal of the people who voted to make a regime change at the last presidential election if the President grants nominations for the former President, he said “Yes that could also happen.”
However, National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa said that the former President has already signed nominations with the UPFA ticket to contest from the Kurunegala electoral district.
