JVP slams National Government

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today slammed the Government over the new appointments to the cabinet and insisted that the public had not given a mandate to the President to form a National Government before the General Elections.
JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake also accused President Maithripala Sirisena of betraying those who voted for him at the January elections by expanding his cabinet and appointing those who were rejected by the people.
“The public have not given a mandate for the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to form a National Government….The President had never said during his election campaign that a National Government will be formed before Parliament Elections,” Dissanayake said.
Dissanayake said that the public had given the President a mandate at the Presidential elections to introduce constitutional reforms and later dissolve Parliament and hold elections.
The JVP leader said that to form a National Government both the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party must go before the public at the Parliament Elections seeking a mandate to form a National Government.
He also noted that the formation of the National Government comes at a time when the country is focused on taking action against those accused of corruption.
The JVP leader said that the public must raise their voice against the National Government and ensure the mandate they gave the President at the January election is met.
He also said that the JVP is in the National Executive Council to push for constitutional reforms and that the National Executive Council does not decide on cabinet appointments.
However with the latest developments, he said the JVP will meet and decide if it will continue to be in the National Executive Council.
