The cabinet, which had a special meeting today, has approved the draft bill on the 19th Amendment to the constitution and will submit it to Parliament for approval, a Government spokesman said.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the special cabinet meeting took place following a party leaders meeting today.
He said that the cabinet could not agree on the electoral system and so the party leaders in the Government will meet again on Tuesday to iron out the differences.
Kariyawasam said that the Government has, meanwhile, decided to Gazette the proposed draft bill on the 19th Amendment
