Ban, Mangala discuss key issues

UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera discussed key issues, including human rights, during a closed door meeting in New York yesterday.
The UN Headquarters said that Samaraweera and the Secretary-General addressed critical priorities for Sri Lanka, including especially human rights, accountability and reconciliation.
“The Secretary-General expressed his support and encouragement to the new Government in its important efforts in the first 100 days. The Minister of External Affairs and the Secretary-General addressed critical priorities for Sri Lanka, including especially human rights, accountability and reconciliation,” the UN said.
The UN said that during the meeting between the UN Secretary-General and Minister Samaraweera they discussed cooperation between the UN and the new Government of Sri Lanka.
The Secretary-General noted the UN’s peacebuilding programmes and affirmed continuous support of the Organization to Sri Lanka and its people.
