Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa has apprised the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Susil Premajayantha to have discussions with the party members and decide on who should be appointed as the Opposition Leader.
Speaker on Thursday (7) told the Parliament that he needs more time to consider his decision on the Opposition Leader’s post, which subject of controversy after 26 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs joined the new Government to accept ministerial portfolios. Under the circumstance, several MPs argued present Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva unsuitable to hold his post.
A proposal signed by 60 Parliamentarians, requesting to nominate Dinesh Gunawardena for the post, was also handed over to the Parliament, yesterday.
