Sacking of Central Committee members not unlawful: SLFP

The removal of four members from the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is not a violation of party’s constitution, a party source said.
The source added there is no legal barrier to dismiss the members and obtain actions against those who violate party’s constitution.
“It’s the President who appoint members to the Central Committee. He has the authority to take decisions, what is best for the party,” the source said.
Earlier, the Central Committee notified former ministers Bandula Gunawardena, S.M. Chandrasena, T.B. Ekanayake and Salinda Dissanayake that they have been removed from the Committee.
The four Parliamentarians were key players in the move to call back former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the political arena and have attended his public rallies as well.
