Police to implement new traffic rules – Galle, Colombo, Negombo among roads under vigilance

Police state that steps have been taken to initiate “lane discipline” in Colombo, and five other main roads as a pilot project from April 6 – 10.  It is noted that  the move will begin from 7.30 a.m. on Monday.
Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunsekera stated that, under this rule, drivers will have to keep to their specific lane without being negligent and driving cutting lanes will be prohibited.
This move will come into action from Moratuwa to Galle – Modhara on the Galle road, Colpetty to Bambalapitiya on the Duplication road, Senanayake junction in Borella to Polduwa on the Sri Jayawardenapura road, Peliyagoda to Kiribathgoda on the Kandy road and Peliyagoda to Wattala on the Negombo road.
Police stated that this exercise is  an experiment but will look to implementing the rule in the future.The Police Media Spokesperson also said that the programme is expected to of reduce traffic congestion and road accidents.
