CID to investigate the gun holder

A special investigation was launched by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into an incident where a man said to be a security officer of MP Namal Rajapaksa was caught bearing a gun in the vicinity of President Maithripala Sirisena at the SLFP Hambantota district meeting held in Angunukolapelassa on Saturday (25).

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said today that the man has been identified as a Corporal in the Sri Lankan Army and when questioned he has said that he was serving as a security officer to  MP Namal Rajapaksa as well.

“However, President's Security Division (PSD) personnel had missed the man in the security check and later was identified by them that he had not undergone the security check. When they checked him, the officers had found a gun in his possession and he was removed from the premises immediately,” the ASP said.

He also said that they have not verified as yet the connection between the gun holder and MP Namal Rajapaksa and the CID is yet to investigate the incident further. PSD is headed by S. M. Wickramasinghe who was also in the same post when Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was in power.
