President Maiithripala Sirisena has ordered the reinstatement of ten army officers including a major general who were ordered to take mandatory leave following the conclusion of the 2010 presidential election.
Acting Army Media Spokesperson Brig. Jayanath Jayaweera stated that Presidential Secretary P.B.Abeykoon had conveyed these orders to Army Commander Lt. General Daya Rathnayake through the Defence Secretary.
The acting army media spokesperson said the appointments came into effect on Friday. He went onto note that these officers have been ordered to meet with the army commander on Monday.
The reinstated officers include a Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Brigadier Bimal Dias, Brigadier Duminda Kappatiwalana, Brigadier Mohotti, Brigadier Hannadige, Brigadier Kumarapperuma, Colonel Udayawardana, Lieutenant Colonel Jayasekara, Captain Ranaweera and Captain Krishantha.
