The recent move came after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, this week,

However Sri Lanka’s opposition member and former minister Vasudeva
Nanayakkara said that a group of opposition members will meet the former
president soon and urge him to contest the upcoming elections.

In a massive rally held in a densely-populated suburb of Colombo last week,

Former ministers including Wimal Weerawansa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and

attended the rally and have been speaking in support of Rajapaksa since
his surprise defeat in last month’s presidential elections.
