PHI begin raids to locate US-imported apples in Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Union says that it has commenced raids in the Lankan market to locate apples imported from the U.S.
Union Chairman Upul Rohana says that the raids will be carried out island-wide on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.
The Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine ordered all stocks of apple imported from the U.S. be sent back to warehouses owing to the risk of spread of bacteria.
The director of environmental and occupational health, and food safety at the Ministry of Health stated that this measure was taken as a safety precaution. He made a request from the general public to refrain from consuming apples imported from the U.S. until further notice.
