New plan over national security

A new plan will be implemented to strengthen Sri Lanka’s national security, President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Maithripala Sirisena said today.
The President said this after visiting the Ministry of Defence with a view to discuss the administrative and managerial state-of-affairs of the Ministry.
The State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene welcomed the President on his arrival and delivered the welcome address at the main auditorium.
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence BMUD Basnayaka, Defence State Ministry Secretary APG Kithsiri, Chief of Defence Staff and Tri-Forces Commanders were also present at the event.
Addressing the Ministry staff President said that, more attention would be paid into national security while implementing a well structured plan henceforth. Accordingly, he said that every effort would be taken in strengthening the national security within the Democratic framework as per the Constitution.
In his brief address President stated that, precise understanding of issues that poses in various faces nationally and internationally has to be addressed in a constructive manner while formulating appropriate solutions.
“At the Security Council Meeting held last week I have directed all the respective authorities to further study into the ongoing procedure of the National Security and to put-forward new recommendations,” he said.
